Just to set my stall out, I'm a complete novice when it comes to photography. While I've gotten better at understanding how to take a half decent photo I don't dig into the more advanced settings cameras offer.

The ability to switch between still photos and movie taken is simple - and as i take more video than stills when on holiday this is going to be hugely beneficial to me. I could argue that the zoom is a bit limited but as I've got two working legs I just walk closer to the object. Street photography is great by using the foldable screen almost like a good old TLR and using a square format image. The Canon PowerShot G7 X has a good macro mode that allows you to focus on a subject that is 5cm away from the camera. The first image shows how close you can get to the subject (in this case a compact flash card). The second image is a 100% crop.

Having had this camera a few weeks now still amazed by how good this camera is. Especially the video recording. Macro performance is good, allowing you to focus as close as 5cm away from the subject. The images were a little soft straight out of the Canon PowerShot G7 X at the default sharpening setting and ideally require some further sharpening in an application like Adobe Photoshop, or you can change the in-camera setting.
